Last month saw the election of Claire Fenwick, Managing Director of Spatial Dimensions, as our new President and Oliver Viney, Managing Director of Atlantic Geomatics, as Vice President.
Claire Fenwick studied a BA Honours degree at Kent Institute of Art and Design but after graduating she switched career path completely. She retrained as a geomatics surveyor, completing the TSA Surveying Course at The Survey School in 2006. She quickly progressed from trainee surveyor to senior surveyor with one of the UK’s leading survey companies. Having managed large survey projects, Claire set up on her own, freelancing on behalf of large surveying companies across the UK. In 2012 she founded her own surveying company, Spatial Dimensions, based in Sevenoaks, Kent.
Promoting careers in the built environment
Having won various awards, including the Kent Women in Construction Award, Claire also speaks regularly at local schools and colleges on the topic of careers in construction. She actively promotes careers in the built environment for women, to try and redress the gender imbalance and skills shortage in the geospatial profession.
First co-opted onto TSA Council in 2019 and then elected in 2020, Claire has served on our Public Relations Committee and has Chaired it for the last 12 months. She also served as our Vice President last year before standing for President this year.
Claire says,
“I am privileged to be TSA President. I firmly believe in the benefits of sharing knowledge and upholding standards, which are key to TSA’s role in the ever-changing world of geomatics. I hope to contribute and have a positive impact with this, helping TSA, other companies and individuals to attain standards set and mark the way for whatever future technology holds for us.”
Commenting on Claire’s election, our CEO, Rachel Tyrrell, says,
“Every President brings something new to Council and I am delighted that Claire will take the reins as the next President of TSA. Her career path is truly inspirational and she brings with her a wealth of experience and a fresh approach to leadership. This new chapter for TSA promises an exciting journey for our membership.”
