The Survey Association (TSA) is pleased to welcome Southampton-based Encompass Surveys Ltd as one of the latest land surveying companies to join the association. Established in 2005 and now with 33 employees, Encompass is an established surveying company, offering a range of surveying disciplines, that takes pride in a client-centric approach.
Surveying is a profession driven by advancing technology and Encompass Surveys makes it a policy to sustain its position at the forefront by investing in the very latest equipment and maintain highly trained and skilled personnel. This provides a service designed to enable speed, accuracy and savings.
Following an extensive and robust application process, which includes references, a credit report and work sample assessments, Rachel Tyrrell, TSA’s Secretary General, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Encompass to TSA membership. One of the reasons the company wanted to join TSA was the desire to differentiate itself from unscrupulous survey companies. The company’s response to the assessment process was excellent.”
Encompass was set up by Steve Hall and Glenn Lickman, who met while working together for a survey company, where they felt they learned ‘how to survey properly’. The company is committed to embracing modernisation and new survey methods. The company recognises the need both to educate clients and understand their needs better.
Steve Hall, chief operating officer at Encompass Surveys, explains: “Joining TSA was an important decision for us and we are excited to maximise on the benefits of our membership. We attended TSA’s conference in November, which was interesting and inspirational – and I know that this is only the start. We are also looking forward to integrating with the incredible survey companies that are already members, as the industry has a reputation for being insular. We want to collaborate with others and shout about our wonderful profession as a joint voice through unity.
“In addition, one of TSA’s core values is that ‘every young person should know about land surveying as a career’. This aligns with our own commitment of promoting surveying as a career for young people and we are excited to see how we can work with TSA to develop this further.”
TSA membership offers a host of benefits, including regular TSA Conferences and events, held in great venues, throughout the year. These provide the perfect opportunity to meet and network with other individuals and companies within surveying and discuss some of the challenges facing the profession.
TSA also provides all members access to a wide range of seminars which cover numerous subject areas, to provide industry intelligence and information on key issues affecting surveying. These events enable members to share knowledge, discuss business issues, and learn from leading figures in the surveying world. Such previous topics have included business improvement, wellbeing and technical instruction.
To help address the ongoing skills gap issue, TSA provides all its members with FREE posting of job adverts and offers free membership to academic institutions offering a survey-related qualification, to help keep the talent within surveying refreshed and up to date on the latest technology and legislation, promote best practice, and provide guidance and support for continuing professional development and growth.
Supporting the future of surveying, The Survey School in Worcester is the perfect option for new entrants into surveying, or those with experience but no formal training. It is the UK’s only commercial training centre that provides surveying training which is accredited by The Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors. Anyone can book on the courses with the necessary entry requirements, and TSA members can enjoy up to 50% discount on all courses at The Survey School.
