If you are involved in the surveying profession, you might already know about The Survey Association, which is better known as TSA. The Survey Association is the go-to for all your surveying needs. It is the only trade body for commercial survey companies in the UK, formed in 1979. Membership of TSA offers a wide range of services and benefits to you and your employees.
We provide a forum for members to discuss, debate and undertake continuous professional development. Today, we have over 200 member companies across the UK, as full, associate, supplier, affiliate or academic members – all of which are directly involved in the geospatial profession. From our recent graduation video, we have testimonials from current members about their experiences of TSA. Here is what we offer for our members.
The benefits of membership
TSA members enjoy a range of benefits, which enhance their learning and keep them informed of industry developments.
- TSA Events, Conference and AGMs
With regular TSA events held throughout the year, as well as its AGM and Conference, there exists the perfect opportunity to meet and network with other individuals and companies within the surveying profession. These events also provide an opportunity to discuss the most important topics, hear the best speakers and are all held in great venues across the UK. The last Conference was held in the Autumn of 2022 at The British Motor Museum in Warwick. It featured keynote speaker Sir Clive Woodward, and it was a great opportunity to meet other people within the membership in an impressive setting.
- Training
The Survey School in Worcester is the perfect option for new entrants into surveying, or those with experience but no formal training. The Survey School is home to TSA Surveying Course. It is the UK’s only commercial training centre that provides training to the land surveying profession, which is also accredited by The Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors. Anyone can enrol on the courses with the necessary entry requirements, and TSA members can enjoy up to 50% discount on all courses at The Survey School.
The Survey School was established in Worcester over 30 years ago, and in 2014, we took over the running of the school, to ensure the continuation of high-quality survey training available in the UK. Since taking over the school, we have invested in updating the IT systems and equipment and have received immense support from the survey instrument manufacturers.
Every year we like to celebrate with our members and students when they graduate. Friday 14 October 2022 saw the latest graduation of students from The Survey School at the beautiful location of Worcester Racecourse. The turnout on the day was fantastic, with representatives from many leading companies in surveying.
- Further learning
We also provide all our members access to our wide range of seminars which cover numerous subject areas, to provide industry intelligence and information on key issues affecting surveying. These events enable members to share knowledge, discuss business issues, and learn from leading figures in the surveying world. Such previous topics have included business improvement, wellbeing and technical updates.
- Recruitment
The skills gap in many sectors is leading to a shortfall in some key job roles. There are simply not enough skilled surveyors to fill all the job vacancies that currently exist. To help address the ongoing skills gap issue, we provide all our members with FREE posting of job adverts and training courses on TSA website. We aim to help keep the talent within surveying refreshed and up-to-date on the latest technology and legislation, promote best practice, and provide guidance and support for continuing professional development and growth. We support and promote our surveying company members, but we are also keen to reach a wider audience, such as engineers and architects, to provide guidance on new methods and techniques.
