Apprentice Land and Engineering Surveyor

Job Description

Summary

Assisting senior members of survey staff on all aspects of geospatial (measured) surveys. Time will be spent mostly capturing data on site in the first year with a mixture of data capture on site and data processing in the second year.

Annual wage: £15,600 – £25,000 a year

Training course: Geospatial survey technician (level 3)
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:15pm.
41 hours a week
Possible start date: Monday 7 October
Duration: 2 Years

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Assist the surveyor on site at a range of client premises with collecting site data such as ground levels, buildings, service covers, trees and street furniture etc
  • Plan and prepare a geospatial project brief from the client’s specification, employing best practice geospatial techniques
  • Set up and operate the latest survey technology under the guidance of a surveyor (including the Total Station, GPS, laser scanners and underground utility detection equipment)
  • Knock in pegs, pins and lift manholes when appropriate
  • Loading information onto Powers’ software systems
  • Process surveys under the guidance of a surveyor using N4ce and AutoCAD software to create the technical drawings
  • Undertake setting out under the guidance of a surveyor on site
  • Maintain and clean all pieces of equipment and vehicles before and on return from site
  • File contract files when required and fill in job site information on the company’s project management system
  • Complete all site Risk Assessments
  • Ensure that all quality control procedures are carried out on site and in the development of a survey
  • Follow procedures in accordance with our ISO certification, learning about the importance of health & safety and quality and accuracy within the business as well as the environmental impact of the company
  • Work to annual objectives and complete a continued professional development log alongside a training plan

Training
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:

English (grade 5)
Maths (grade 6)
